A's v. White Sox Recap

We all knew Trevor Cahill was human. We didn't want to believe he was human. We wanted to believe that he was an amazing Pterodactyl Android. He lost, but he is still our ace. And you know what, soon even Giants fans will know his name. The A's still can't hit so well, and they can't play defense so well, and it keeps losing them ballgames. Through 40 baseball games, that's right kids, 1/4 of the season has already passed us by, the A's are 20-20. To be a realist, I don't have too much to complain about or tear my hair out over. To be a person who wants to incite the fervor of 1,000 suns, the 2011 A's are one of the most infuriating teams I have ever watched. It's beyond torture. That's right Giants fans, you can't call it torture when you're the reigning major league champions. It's torture when your team can't seem to get a guy to first base.

It's an epidemic. This team is not hitting like they should. And 40 games in, it is no longer a slow start, it's a problem that must be addressed. Coco Crisp has an OBP of .285. He also has the highest average for any regular on the team with .258. But he isn't walking, he isn't setting the table, and he isn't allowing the "rbi" guys to have anything to work with. Of course, let's look at what they're doing.... Combined, Willingham, DeJesus, and Matsui, the big off season additions, are batting .237 with 11 home runs and 50 RBI. It's not good. The highest slugging percentage on the team? 5th outfielder Ryan Sweeney at .423. He's also the only one getting on base over 40 percent of the time at .407. And yeah, he's not playing. But he shouldn't be. The other guys should be doing that, or better. And, unfortunately, Mr. Geren finds himself in a bit of a catch 22.

Something needs to be shaken up. I'm not sure how or what. I hate calling for people to be fired, but hitting coach Gerald Perry does not seem to be getting the job done.

Anyway, the A's lost two of three to the White Sox. Brandon McCarthy had one bad inning Friday night, then Tyson Ross earned the A's a win, then Trevor Cahill had one bad inning. If they could score more than 2 or 3 runs a night, this team would be 30-10. Instead, we get to stare up at the Angels and sit at 20-20.

Player of the Series
Once again, it's a pitcher. Tyson Ross. I applaud you. He's here for the long haul now that Braden has to get surgery. I'm glad it's going to be him. 7.1IP, 2 ER, 6 H, 8 K, 1 BB. Hell of a start from your number 5 starter. Look forward for more to come.

GOAT
Gerald Perry. He's my villain du jour as I try to figure out why the A's can't score runs. I'm interested to see how long Beane goes before making some sort of change.

Play of the Series

A's flash some leather on DPs. last one is best

Sweeney makes a great play

On Deck
The A's have a two game set against the Angels that is supposed to begin tonight if the rain holds off. Brett Anderson will try to move the A's back about .500 against the recently healthy Joel Pinero. The A's need these home games, winning against the division is also big. Come on A's, I BELIEVE.
