Battle of the Pups Preview

Tomorrow we get to see Bulldogs and Huskies run around after a bright orange ball on the hardwood.

How fun will that be? But all woofing aside, we get to see Butler continue to do it's best Milan High impression and attempt to take down the giant of the University of Connecticut. Read on for some quick thoughts.

Connecticut made it here after most of America had written them off. After going only 9-9 in Big East play, they've now won 10 games in a row, taking the Big East tourney and now reaching the final game of the season. They're still hungry for the win. Kemba Walker and company have looked strong throughout the tourney. They, through some ice cold veins in a guy who needs to be entered into the greatest name ever competition, Shabazz Napier, were able to hold off the Kentucky Wildcats in a defensive struggle Saturday night.

Butler is led by junior Shelvin Mack and senior Matt Howard, two players who last year came within a breadth of being the ultimate Cinderella. They made it here by beating some good teams. This list includes the even greater Cinderella, VCU, who they were able to soundly defeat to make it to the championship game. Last year it was Duke, this year it's UConn. They get another chance to slay the dragon.

As I've said every time I've gone to watch a UConn game this year, the key is stopping Walker. Lamb, Napier, and the rest of the cast are talented, but if you can take Walker's 23.5 PPG average down to 13, you have a chance at downing the Huskies. Conversely, if UConn can stop Mack, they should win the day. It's that simple!

My prediction: Butler does it with offense, but the win against VCU showed that they can play some slick defense as well. The Mack/Walker matchup is a wash, with both players having their normal night. UConn will up by two with 4 seconds to play. Mack's half court prayer falls, and what is remembered as the greatest college championship game ever is won by the Bulldogs.
