Rumblings, Grumblings, Musings, and Ruminations

So yeah.... Hello everyone. It's been awhile since I've written anything, and for that I am truly sorry. I know alllllll 15-25 of you who give this blog a gander have been sorely disappointed by my lack of hard-hitting, informative, in-your-face blogging. I hope you all can forgive me. I have lost the muse.

Hopefully I've found it again.

So, what's been going on?

Probably a lot of this

31 games into the season, or nearly a fifth of the way through, the A's find themselves at 16-15, and in second place in the AL West. Though they're fielding a team that mostly played AAA ball or platoon duty last year, the A's, under hotshot manager Bob Melvin, are thus far exceeding expectations. Bartolo Colon and Tommy Milone have been great. Ryan Cook and Jarrod Parker have allowed A's fans to forget a bit about Trevor Cahill. The bullpen has been mostly passable. Reddick, Cespedes, and Gomes have provided a nice offensive spark, while Pennington and Weeks finally look like they're ready to pick it up. This team still probably won't win the West, but at least they're playing competitive baseball. And who knows, in three weeks when they get Brett Anderson and Manny Ramirez, maybe they'll become a force that the league at least has to... respect.

The A's dodged a huge bullet today when they learned Cespedes does not have a broken bone, but only a strained muscle. If he has to miss extended time, the A's might find themselves in trouble. He is the A's best offensive player in a long time. With five home runs and 21 RBIs already this season, he's proving that he definitely belongs in the majors. The same can be said if Brandon McCarthy has to miss many more starts. Send him all the good vibes possible.

The A's are somehow winning games. There have been many games I've personally about given up on, like Sunday in Tampa, or Tuesday against the Jays, that an unlikely hero has stepped up and somehow, they pull it out. In both of those instances, it was recent signee Brandon Inge, who hopefully can solidify third base for the rest of the season. I would like this very much. No matter what... they're in this thing. Frankie will probably say similar things about the AAA team formerly known as the Giants.

Yup, this Brandon Inge

Speaking of Frankie, he and I will soon be taking a whirlwind baseball trip to Milwaukee, Chicago, Pittsburgh, and New York very, very soon. You can bet your bottom dollar that we'll blog about it, so stay tuned for fun and exciting times!!!

In other baseball news, in case you've been living under a rock. The Orioles and Nationals are turning the world upside down and being good. Matt Kemp, Josh Hamilton, and oddly Brian LaHair are good. King Felix, Cueto, Weaver and Yu Darvish are pretty damn good too. Bryce Harper and Cole Hamels are already feuding. Oh also, there's some sort of playoffs going on indoors on hardwood and ice.

I hope this all sums it up. LET'S GO OAKLAND!

Song of the post: I got to see Springsteen last week, and the A's are leading the majors in steals. Boom.
