Short answer: Yes. OK, well, if we're in the category of games you mastered as a third grader... then absolutely yes.
I thought I would regale you all with tales of The Schoolyard Bullies, the best pink wearing kickball team Oakland has ever seen.
Last night, down 3-2, the Bullies had their all-star, Sam, at the plate with runners on first and second. Sam kicked a ball down the first base line, and though she was out on the peg, the runner on first, Christo, never stopped running, and dove in head first for the go ahead run.
In the bottom of the fourth frame, the anonymous evil team from the other dugout led off with a triple. He was unable to score on a bunt single, but then crashed on contact on the next bunt attempt. On a brilliant catlike play by Shat, he was thrown out at the plate.
Now, with runners on first and second and only one out, there was a deep drive to right center. Fortunately, Cap'n Rob tracked it down, and had the awareness to double the runner off second, resulting in yet another win for the Bullies.
Now that I've bored you to tears, here are a couple links that I found pretty awesome.
Life in San Francisco
How cool was teal?
Oh yeah, and the A's are doing well...
Since the break, the A's are 4-2. They've averaged an astounding five runs and over 10 hits. It's like they have an offense. Believe it or not, the A's have been fun to watch. Not only are they hitting, but they're hitting in timely situations. It feels so good. I remember this feeling. I hope it stays.
Also, I'm sure that you, my viewers, and I know you're not viewers have heard already, but Hideki Matsui hit his 500th career home run. Congratulations to Hideki, this one was a long time coming. His interviews are also the greatest. He really is a classy guy.
Now the A's turn their sights on the Big Apple. The Yankees. The Damn Yankees.
This weekend, the Yankees will more than likely bring the Athletics back to earth. But, there's always that chance. That singular chance that they come out with this newfound momentum and tear the cover off the ball, riding this high all the way to the play offs. Oh, pipe dreams are fun.
Tonight, the series kicks off as Trevor Cahill faces Phil Hughes. Hughes has had plenty of success against the A's in his career. Cahill has had little to no success against the Yankees. It should be a doozy. Go A's!
